Dr. Cheryl Winter is a doctor of clinical nutrition, board-certified family nurse practitioner, registered dietitian and a certified practitioner through the Institute of Functional Medicine. Dr. Cheryl has always been driven by the mantra of Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicine, “Let Food be thy Medicine and Medicine be thy Food.”

During her previous conventional practice, she witnessed her patients returning to her sicker and sicker, and requiring more and more medication, because no one was addressing the root cause of their condition. She went into the field of healthcare to make people better, not worse, and she could no longer work within the conventional healthcare system.

Journey to Functional Medicine

After discovering The Institute for Functional Medicine, Dr. Cheryl completed the rigorous certification process and joined their ranks as a certified practitioner, and returned to prescribing “Food as Medicine,” and now treats the root cause of her patients’ conditions so they can truly heal. Dr. Cheryl has been able to find the root cause of so many of her patients’ diabetes and obesity conditions, as well as other healthcare conditions including autoimmune diseases, fatigue, depression, headaches, acne, thyroid disorders, and more. Dr. Cheryl is committed to not only treating illness and alleviating symptoms but educating and empowering her clients with the compassion they deserve.

Interests

Dr. Cheryl has been married to her LSU-college sweetheart for the past 40 years. They have two daughters and one granddaughter. When she is not spending time with her family, Dr. Cheryl loves painting, interior design, reading and boating.
